Black Magic, Spellwork and Protection
Not all energy we encounter comes from a place of love. Throughout history, every culture has held beliefs about harmful intention, psychic interference, energetic parasites, curses, envy, and manipulation. Whether we call it black magic, negative energy, spiritual attack, or simply bad vibes, the effect can feel very real.
Many don’t realize that spellwork isn’t only about rituals, candles, or elaborate ceremonies — a spell is simply spoken intention. Every word we speak carries frequency and creative power. When words are rooted in anger, jealousy, or fear, they can unintentionally manifest harm. When spoken with love and compassion, they become blessings and healing.
Working with energy or unseen forces without understanding or training can open doors that are difficult to close. For this reason, any practice involving energetic or spiritual influence should be approached with humility, respect, and grounding. True mastery is not about control — it’s about awareness and alignment with higher truth.
Protection — Understanding Energetic Shadows & Returning to Light
Protection practices exist not from fear, but from empowerment — a way to maintain sovereignty over your energy, reclaim your light, and stay aligned with your true path. Below is a complete guide to understanding harmful energetic influences, along with practical, safe, beginner-friendly protection tools and rituals you can use anytime.
Forms of Negative Magic & Energetic Interference
These are some of the most commonly referenced forms of “black magic” or harmful energy across cultures. This section is informational — not an endorsement — to help readers understand what people mean when they use these terms.
The Evil Eye (Envy-Based Energy)
Found in Mediterranean, Middle Eastern, South American, and many other cultures.
It’s believed that envy or jealousy from others can attach like a subtle energetic weight.
Signs: fatigue, headaches, misfortune, sudden tension with others.
Counter: charms, mirrors, cleansing rituals, salt.
Hexes and Curses
Intentional negative energy directed at someone through spoken words, written symbols, ritual actions, or focused intention.
Signs: repeated “bad luck,” emotional heaviness, drained energy, conflict patterns.
Counter: cord cutting, candle rituals, cleansing baths, salt lines, reversal spells.
Psychic Attack
Unconscious or conscious negative thought projections, anger, resentment, or obsessive focus from another person.
Signs: intrusive thoughts, anxiety, sudden mood dips, dreams of conflict.
Counter: shields, grounding, visualization, boundary work.
Energetic Parasites / Attachments
Sometimes called “astral hitchhikers” or “dense energy forms.”
These are not entities — more like pockets of stagnant emotional residue.
Signs: feeling “not yourself,” lethargy, agitation.
Counter: smoke cleansing, sound cleansing, salt baths, light visualization.
Shadow Work Misinterpretation
Sometimes what feels like “black magic” is actually our own unprocessed trauma coming to the surface.
Signs: emotional triggers, repeating patterns, old wounds resurfacing.
Counter: meditation, journaling, therapy, spiritual support.
Crossroads Magic (Folk Magick)
Historically associated with decision-making, fate, or asking spirits for assistance.
Not inherently evil — but often misunderstood.
A Note on Voodoo, Hoodoo & Cultural Traditions
True African Diaspora religions are not black magic — they are sacred cultural practices.
However, popular culture tends to mislabel them, so they’re often listed here for clarity.

Recognizing When You May Have Picked Up Negative Energy
People often feel energetically “off” without knowing why. Common signs include:
Feeling drained for no reason
A sudden heaviness or cloudiness in your mind
Mood shifts that don’t feel like your own
Repeating miscommunications or conflicts
Random headaches or pressure around the crown
Feeling disconnected from joy
Bad dreams or restless sleep
Random irritation or sadness
These signs don’t automatically mean black magic — they simply signal it’s time to cleanse and re-ground.
Signs Your Protection is Working
You feel lighter and clearer
Your sleep improves
Conflict dissipates
Your intuition feels sharper
You feel more “yourself”
Energy drains stop
Vibrant, positive synchronicities reappear
Your home feels peaceful
Daily & Weekly Spiritual Hygiene Practices
Energy maintenance is like brushing your teeth — small routines keep things flowing.
Daily:
Visualize white or golden light around the body
Shake off stagnant energy (literally shake your arms/legs)
Use a quick grounding breath (exhale down your spine into the earth)
Weekly:
Cleanse your home with sound, smoke, or intention
Recharge crystals and tools
Take a salt bath
Open windows to refresh energy
Journal emotional clutter
Emotional & Mental Boundaries
(Non-Mystical Protection)
Not all “negative energy” is mystical — sometimes it’s:
narcissistic behavior
emotional dumping
manipulation
envy or competition
gossip
stressful environments
Strengthening boundaries is one of the most powerful protection practices:
Say no more often
Limit access to draining people
Trust your intuition
Stop explaining yourself
Don’t take others’ emotions personally
This is spiritual protection, too.
When to Seek Professional Support
Consider seeking a healer or counselor when:
You feel consistently overwhelmed
You experience persistent fear
Your relationships or work are deeply affected
Emotional triggers feel unmanageable
You want guided support for clearing or grounding
There is no shame in receiving help — healing is community work.
Protection Prayers & Affirmations
Here are gentle, universal options:
• “I release all energies that are not mine.”
• “I am surrounded by divine light and protection.”
• “Only love may enter my field.”
• “I reclaim my power now.”
• “My spirit is sovereign, strong, and safe.”
Guided Meditation for Clearing Energy
A simple self-guided version your readers can follow:
1. Close your eyes and take a slow breath.
Feel the breath soften your body.
2. Visualize a sphere of golden light above your head.
This is source energy, divine and pure.
3. Let the light gently pour down your body.
Feel it washing away old energy, tension, and fear.
4. Imagine the light forming a soft, shimmering shield.
It allows love in and keeps negativity out.
5. Breathe deeply and whisper:
“I am light. I am safe. I am clear.”
Your energy is reset.
Earthing / Grounding
This is one of the simplest and most powerful ways to release negative energy.
Grounding is the practice of connecting your body directly with the earth — skin to soil, grass, sand, stone, or water.
Benefits:
Reduces inflammation & stress
Clears emotional density
Rebalances your energy field
Helps release negativity into the earth
Promotes calm, clarity, and stability
How to Practice:
Walk barefoot outdoors
Sit with your back against a tree
Put your hands in the soil
Stand on grass or sand for 5–10 minutes
You’ll feel lighter, steadier, and more centered.
Additional Protective & Grounding Practices
Mindful Speech — Speak consciously. Words are powerful currents of intention.
Discernment — Always listen to your intuition; if something feels off, step back and center yourself.
Prayer & Divine Guidance — Call upon your higher self, spirit guides, or source energy to help you stay aligned in light.
Protection Stones — Black tourmaline, obsidian, and smoky quartz can absorb or deflect dense energy.
Psychic Protection & Energetic Boundaries
Energetic sensitivity is a gift, but it can feel overwhelming without boundaries. Psychic protection isn’t about fear — it’s about maintaining your energetic sovereignty. Protective practices can include:
Shielding with Light: Visualize a radiant bubble of divine light surrounding you before entering crowded or emotionally charged spaces.
Cord Cutting: Release old energetic attachments that drain or distort your energy.
Sacred Space: Keep your home energetically clear with sound, incense, or crystals that resonate with peace and love.
Rest & Reflection: Overextension weakens your field. Give yourself time to recharge and ground after spiritual or emotional work.
True magic begins within. Every thought, word, and action is a ripple in the energetic field. Protection comes not from fear of darkness, but from standing so fully in your light that nothing outside of love can touch you. When you honor energy with awareness and compassion, even the unseen begins to work in your favor.
Personal Disclaimer
Until I prepared the blog post about witchcraft, I would not have identified as a witch, outside of the family jokes. I did not think I practiced witchcraft, but I see now that many of the protection and cleansing rituals I do, actually fall under the umbrella of witchcraft. As does much of this page of black magic. I do not practice Spellwork, or any form of black magic. My path is one of light and spiritual alignment. I believe in the power of positive intention and in protecting one’s energy with love and discernment. I respectfully advocate for shielding from negativity and ask that any energies not of the highest good be gently returned to their source, transmuted into light and peace.
